Divorces fell by 10.6% and 12.3% of separations. The average duration of marriages dissolved was 15.6 years, the same as in 2008.
Marriage dissolutions
In 2009 there were 106,166 marriages solutions, 10.7% less than in the previous year. Thus continues the decline in marital breakdown initiated in 2007.
By type of marital breakdown, in 2009 there were 7,680 separations (12.3% less less than in the previous year) and 98,359 divorces (10.6% less).
On the other hand, there were 127 annulments, 10.6% less than the 2008.

Data by Regions
The number of marriage dissolutions per 1,000 inhabitants in Spain was 2.27 in 2009, down to the previous year (2.58).
By region, which recorded the highest rates were Canarias (2.83), Asturias (2.62) and Catalonia (2.61) and the autonomous city of Melilla (3.04).
